Auction House Guide
How to go from 100 gp’s to 100 fsp.

First of all, if you don’t enjoy the art of the deal, there are lots easier ways of getting FSP.  You can buy 25 of them for $5 or do a few rewards to earn them.

Now if you do like wheeling and dealing here are some hints as to ways to start getting some extra fsp.

The whole key to this isn’t on getting people to pay more than something is worth; it is in buying for less than you can resell it at.

Step 1

Getting the first fsp.

If you don’t already have any fsp then you’ll need to get some.   The easiest way it to scan the Auction House (AH) for items that you can buy for gold and resell for more.
An example of this is the Ring of Catorn (level 36).  It often will sell for under 100gp but is such a good item that players will shell out 20,000+ for them.

Try bidding 100 gp’s on all that are available.  Then auction them back off for 1000 gp’s, buy it now of 20k.  I’ve sold probably 20 this way.   They won’t sell every time around but eventually you’ll sell a couple.   Make sure you are banking your gold or handing it off to someone to hold, so you aren’t a target.

Other items that can you can sometimes buy cheap and sell for more are the non-legendary set item.  Eribor, Nomad, Blood Demon, Girath, Kragh, Flamed, Henz, Flamed, etc.

Eventually you should have enough gold to buy an fsp or you’ll have found an item you can resell for 1 fsp.

Step 2

Finding something to sell.

Now you’ll need to learn what people are willing to pay for stuff.   Start with a set that has a pretty high demand, the Girath set at 30th is a pretty good one for this.   Learn what people are willing to bid on a non-hellforged item.   If people are pretty much willing to spend 2 fsp on an Axe of Girath (good quality) now you have a starting point.   Keep searching for people selling.  If you see one with a buy it now of 1 fsp, buy it.   The key here isn’t to make a killing on one item.  But to make a 1 fsp profit on lots of items.

In general, people are willing to pay about 1 extra fsp for an excellent quality item and 2 fsp for a perfect item.   Also, each forge point usually means it is worth 1 extra fsp.  So if we have determined that a good axe of Girath sells for 2 fsp.  An excellent one should be about 3 fsp and an x3 forged excellent one for about 6 fsp.   Search all the items that are for sale (including for gold) and look for any that are priced lower than you can resell it for.

It cost 13 fsp to fully forge an item.  So forging stuff yourself almost never pays off.  The 5th forge on an item typically adds 2 fsp rather than 1.  So an x5 axe of Girath will almost always sell for 9fsp or more.

Once you get comfortable with one set, move on to others.   I typically scan about 6 sets myself.    Good ones are the Girath, Raggghzas, Fire Dragon, Plague, Reborn Guardian, Reborn Dragon.

Step 3

Selling stuff

Ok, now that you have something it is time to sell it.   I find that doing lots of 1 hour auctions works better than 1 longer auction.   If you are gunna be offline for a while, then auction it off for a couple hours, otherwise keep re-doing it.

I suggest pricing the item at what you think it will sell for as a minimum, and then 1 fsp higher for a buy it now price.   For the good axe of Girath we’re using for an example.  Price it at 2 fsp, buy it now of 3 fsp.   You probably won’t sell it the first auction but if you did your homework properly and set the price right, it will sell in 3-4 auctions.

If you are unsure of what something should sell for you can see if any of the big traders online are selling stuff.  They will often have 10+ auctions going for similar items.  Base your price on theirs.  They don’t normally do 1 hour auctions so if you price it the same as they do you have a slight advantage selling.   With higher priced items, make the buy it now price 2 -3 fsp more than the minimum bid.

Step 4

Getting bargains

Don’t assume that because someone is asking 3 fsp with a buy it now of 6, for an item that they won’t sell it for 3.   If you find something with a long auction time, that no one has bid on yet, you might be able to make a deal with the seller.   Make them a reasonable offer.    I’ve bought lots of items are the minimum asking price (or lower) simply because the seller was willing to take less fsp at that time, rather than wait 10 hours longer.

Once you have a few fsp this can work on bigger and bigger items.   Start learning what fully forged items will sell for.  In our example above with the Axe of Girath (excellent) x5, you know you should be able to get 9+ fsp for it.  If you see someone auctioning one off, try offering them 8 fsp for it.    They might say no, but they also might say yes.

If they say no then make the minimum bid if the auction isn’t running too long.  Kind of sucks to be out of fsp and then find a great deal though.  So be careful.  I suggest that once you have 15+ fsp make sure you keep 1/3 of your total in reserve at all times.

Step 5

Auctioning tricks

There are a couple of tricks you can use to try and get extra fsp.    If you have an item you are pretty sure will fetch 10 fsp or more you might try this.   Do a longer auction, maybe 8 hours or more.  Set the minimum price at 1 fsp and the maximum at about 12.    Get a friend to bid 9 fsp on it.  It will show up near the top when someone looks for minimum bids.   If your friend is the high bidder just do a secure trade and start over.   Make sure that the friend has the fsp and is around to bid though.

On items that are in demand with people with fsp, like fully forged perfect items.  You can sometimes set the buy it now price higher than the average player would pay.  For example:  People with lots of fsp will often pay about 25 fsp for a Reborn Guardian Axe (perfect) x5.   If you shop around you can sometimes get them for 18-20 fsp.

If you have a 3-4 item set that is really nice (excellent/perfect) and fully forged,  you can sometimes get a premium price buy announcing it on the FSBox.  It will cost one fsp to announce so you need to take that into account.   But a complete Girath set (excellent x5 forged) will likely sell for 45-50 fsp so might be worth trying.  (I’m cheap so have only done this once but am told it can be very profitable)

Step 6

Forging and crafting.

It is seldom worthwhile forging an item.  You can almost always buy something cheaper than you can forge it.   It costs almost 13 fsp to fully forge something counting the gold costs.

Crafting on the other hand *can* sometimes be worthwhile.    A master crafter using the master craftsman (5 fsp) will result in a perfect item about 75% of the time.  But if you have a poor or very poor item that is already forged you might consider having them try using the apprentice (1 fsp) to re-craft something.  If you end up with a good or better quality you likely will have increased the value by 2-3 fsp.
